China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch) – Land Transport Authority (LTA) East West Line (EWL) and Jurong Region Line (JRL) J106 Project
In February 2020, LTA awarded a contract for the design and construction of Boon Lay station to China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch). This includes the design and construction of Boon Lay Station and a viaduct stretching 800m along Jurong West Street 64, as well as addition and alteration works to the existing East West Line Boon Lay Station to connect it to the new Jurong Region Line Boon Lay Station, which will be served as an interchange.
The construction of this station cum interchange will be China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch)’s first railway contract in Singapore. Jenmon was thus privileged to be awarded by China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch) to design, supply, deliver, install, test and commission 2 units of 10 ton Single Girder Gantry Cranes and 1 unit of 80+80ton Double Girder Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane.
During the course of the discussion with China Communications Construction Company Limited, the limited space at the precast yard was raised. As the flexibility from moving from one bay to another was a challenge for a 160 ton finished viaduct beam, Jenmon proposed solution was to use a Double Girder Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane. In comparison to a normal Double Girder Gantry Crane, the Double Girder Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane will be much narrower in span, increasing the productivity and lowering the cost. Jenmon hopes this the installation of this Double Girder Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane will enable China Communications Construction Company Limited to complete the construction of the station cum interchange with ease.
Scheduled to be completed in 2026, this J106 project forms part of the new Jurong Region Line MRT development by LTA, Singapore’s seventh MRT line and the first fully elevated line, without any underground stations. When fully completed in 2028, this line is expected to have a total of 24 stations and 3 interchanges, providing greater accessibility and convenience for passengers.
